THE OLIVE SPIRIT OF HERRERA, PRESENT IN AGRO SEVILLA
There are many reasons that make the Sevillian town of Herrera a magnificent demonstration of the way of being and working of the Andalusians. Located geographically in the heart of Andalusia, this town is part of the essence of our community, and also of Agro Sevilla, which is reflected day by day in the great work of the Agricultural Cooperative of Herrera.
A cooperative with more than 40 years
The origins of the SCA Agropecuaria de Herrera are in the very origins of Agro Sevilla. It was born in 1977 integrated in UTECO Sevilla, the Territorial Union of Cooperatives that was the precursor of Agro Sevilla. Since then, our cooperative in Herrera has been a fundamental element in the socio-economic dynamism of the town.
Currently, the cooperative has more than 500 members who cultivate around 2,700 hectares of olive trees, mostly of the Hojiblanca variety. The cooperative has almost 200 women members, which shows the growing presence of women in the Andalusian countryside. Looking to the future, the cooperative works to optimize production costs thanks to the modernization of processes, as well as putting the focus on the organic production of table olives.
Herrera is a town with history. The lands that surround it have been dedicated to the cultivation of olives since Antiquity. And fruit of this past, among olive groves, is an interesting thermal complex of the 3rd century, one of the best preserved Roman villas in the province of Seville. A town, Herrera, which in August celebrates its Fair, which is a perfect excuse to pay a visit.
