THE OLIVE TREE, AN ALLY IN THE CONSERVATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT

04/06/2018

We have written in this blog about the benefits of the olive on the health of people, but the advantages do not end there. The benefits of the olive tree go much further and also positively affect the environment. Celebrations such as World Environment Day make us think even more about the risks that threaten the health of the planet. And one of these dangers is the decrease of the forest mass. The function of the trees is of utmost importance in the natural environment and the olive grove is a key element in the conservation of the environment in Andalusia.

Benefits of the olive grove on the natural environment

The olive tree is capable of acting against the advance of climate change. Numerous expert reports have highlighted the role of the olive grove as an element of "drainage" of carbon dioxide, showing that one hectare of olive trees cancel the annual carbon footprint of a person. If this effect is transferred to a single olive tree, each olive tree can remove up to 25 kilos of carbon dioxide from the air.

On the other hand, the olive grove increases biodiversity and protects the soil against erosion and desertification. In addition, it promotes the prevention and reduction of forest fires, the preservation of traditional agricultural landscapes and the maintenance of biological diversity, avoiding the contamination of aquifers and swamps.

Agro Sevilla develops a sustainable model committed to the Andalusian olive grove, respectful of the environment and efficient in resource management. Thanks to actions to minimize impact, such as the purification and treatment of water of the highest quality and zero waste policy, Agro Sevilla has the ISO 14.001 standard certificate, which guarantees sustainable production and respect for nature.
