This Friday, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas Puchades, visited the facilities of Agrosevilla, the largest producer, packager, and exporter of table olives in the world.
During his visit to the work centre of this Andalusian cooperative, the minister was accompanied by Fernando Miranda Sotillos, general secretary of Agriculture and Food; Carlos Toscano Sánchez, deputy representative of the Government of Seville; Josefa Valverde, mayor of La Roda de Andalucía; Gabriel Cabello, president of Agrosevilla; Julio Roda, managing director of the cooperative; and the members of the Agrosevilla Governing Council.
The retinue visited the Agrosevilla facilities in La Roda de Andalucía, looking over some of the most noteworthy features of the production process for table olives and walking throughout the 170,000 plus square metres of the cooperative’s facilities.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, highlighted the work of agri-food cooperatives and their capacity to create wealth and jobs, which significantly contribute to the economic and social structuring and coordination of rural territories. The minister also assured that the new aid allocated to olive groves, with a decided social and ecological approach, will be a key tool for preventing the abandonment of olive farming in regions where the crop plays an important productive and environmental role.
‘We are grateful about welcoming the visit of the minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and having the chance to showcase the great potential of the table olive sector. At Agrosevilla, we work continuously to drive this industry forward, with a deep commitment to innovation to ensure that our table olives reach more than 75 countries, producing over 80,000 tonnes per year, which is good proof of the development and strength of our business,’ stated Gabriel Cabello, president of Agrosevilla.
With over 45 years of history, Agrosevilla is the largest global producer, packager and exporter of olives. Established as a cooperative of olive-grower cooperatives, Agrosevilla supervises every stage of the production phases for its olives: from caring for the olive trees and harvesting the olives, to producing, distributing, marketing and selling the end product, thus ensuring rigorous traceability and greater control of the quality during each stage of the value chain, from the source to the final destination.
