With this new installation, the company now has 11,000 m2 of photovoltaic panels, a project that saw an investment of over two million euros and ensures a significant reduction of the carbon footprint.
Agrosevilla, the biggest exporter of table olives in the world, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability, with the inauguration of structure composed of 1,100 photovoltaic modules at the carpark of its La Roda de Andalucía factory. These come in addition to the more than 3,000 solar modules installed at the company’s main production centre.
The new installation will provide electricity production of 750,000 Kwh/year, which equates to a reduction of 375 tons of CO2. One of the key features of the new structure is its layout, covering 240 parking spaces on the factory premises.
The installation therefore serves a dual purpose, benefiting the workers of Agrosevilla, who can park their cars sheltered from the elements while driving solar energy production, in line with the company’s sustainable energy commitment.
The new installation was launched on Thursday with an inauguration event attended by the Mayor of the town, Juan José Carnerero Aguilar; councillors Carlos París y Jesús Pachón; chairman of Agrosevilla, Gabril Cabello; and the CEO, Julio Roda.
We continue to drive our commitment to renewable energies, taking advantage of the water resources and the transition to the circular economy. With this installation, we have reduced our carbon footprint further while minimising our impact on the environment.
Julio Roda, CEO of Agrosevilla
This Agrosevilla project, developed by Grupotec and powered by the energy company IGNIS, totals 11,000 m2 of solar modules and an investment of 2 million euros. The photovoltaic modules installed at the factory and on the carpark concourse represent an important reduction in the company’s carbon footprint, generating savings of 1,127 tons of CO2 per year. In the future, that figure will rise as high as 30,000 tons, ensuring self-consumption for 30% of the factory’s energy needs.
Agrosevilla: a sustainable roadmap
The new installation follows the guidelines issued by Agrosevilla on sustainability and innovation; a roadmap that includes the new waste treatment programme with the installation of a WWTPI (Industrial Waste Water Treatment Plant), which has reduced discharges to evaporation ponds by 40%, as well as the initiative for the upgrading of factory machinery, making it possible to reduce energy consumption by 50%.
Agrosevilla’s commitment to the principles of the circular economy, the contribution to the fight against climate change and the protection of biodiversity of ecosystems are set out in the Code of Conduct, the Social and Business Ethics Policy and the Integrated Quality, Environment and Occupational Risk Prevention Policy. The company also has in place an Integrated Environmental Management System certified under the standard ISO 14001:2015.
